Ryoma has the ability to synch with and use the powers of any mutant within his ability's range, typically the size of 500 square feet right now (this range will grow with time and training). When synched with another mutant, the entirety of their mutation is at his disposal - including abilities that have not yet manifested (i.e., he synchs their full potential, not just the current state). Ryoma does not intrinsically know how to use the mutations he synchs, so he has to learn to master any ability in order to be able to use it properly. Energy-based and psionic mutations appear and fade the instant he begins or cuts off a synch; physical mutations take more time to manifest and thus more time to fade, ranging from hours to days depending on the severity of the mutation and the amount of his body that is affected. There is no way for the mutant(s) being synched to tell that the process is happening - they feel nothing and Ryoma shows now outward sign of using his powers (until/unless the mutation begins to appear).

Turning the synchs off is still currently impossible for Ryoma, as is choosing with whom he wants to synch - right now he simultaneously synchs every mutant within his range whether he wats to or not. He will be able to eventually filter out all the mutant signals around him, until he can determine which (if any) he wants to synch.

Aside from utilizing an individual's powers, Ryoma can also identify any mutants around him, though this is also currently limited to the same range as his synching ability. He forms a permanent "imprint" of any mutant with which he synchs, and is able to use this ability to track them direction-wise within a limited range. This ability is always on, and cannot be turned off.

If he were to remain consistently synched to another mutant for a period of years, Ryoma would being to pick up a lower level of their ability (like an afterimage) even when he is not synched to that mutant. He himself doesn't know if it's singular to her, how long he needs to be continually synched, or even if it will happen with any other mutants. Because of this ability, Ryoma's powers are twofold due to the fact that his mother herself was a low-level empath and he had been unintentionally synched to her from the instant his powers began to manifest at a very young age. Thanks to the training he received from her, he has a sharp sense of empathy and can read other people's emotional states very well. He cannot use this ability to project feelings, only read them. This power is strong enough that he can use it to read people (albeit on a very superficial level) within a radius of about a 100-200 square feet. Oddly enough, except for those people who have been specifically told he has this ability (such as teachers or others who might have been privy to his records), Ryoma doesn't advertise this extra ability because he thinks it makes him appear weak. He is in very good control of this power, unlike his synching, because he's been training it with his mother for a number of years now.
